REDD+<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Son actividades que reducen las emisiones por evitar la deforestaci\u00f3n y degradaci\u00f3n forestal (REDD) y contribuyen a la conservaci\u00f3n, manejo sostenible de los bosques y mejoramiento de las existencias o secuestro de carbono forestal (REDD+). En otras palabras es minimizar la destrucci\u00f3n de los bosques y su degradaci\u00f3n ayuda a disminuir las emisiones de carbono en la atm\u00f3sfera. Pero la conservaci\u00f3n de los bosques no s\u00f3lo impide las emisiones de carbono, sino que tambi\u00e9n ayuda a eliminar el carbono que ya est\u00e1 en la atm\u00f3sfera. Ha esto se le llama secuestro de carbono. El resultado es un aumento de las reservas de carbono en los bosques y en los suelos (FAO 2002). Al tomar en cuenta esto, a REDD se le agrega el \u201cplus\u201d, lo que ahora llamamos REDD+.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Esto significa que bajo REDD+ se crear\u00edan nuevos tipos de \u201d\u00e1reas protegidas de carbono\u201d en grandes \u00e1reas de bosques, evitando la deforestaci\u00f3n y la degradaci\u00f3n de estos bosques con el objetivo principal de reducir las emisiones de CO2. Esto podr\u00eda llevarse a cabo mediante acciones de gobierno (como las \u00e1reas protegidas) o podr\u00eda hacerse mediante \u00e1reas protegidas a nivel local o pueblos ind\u00edgenas (por empresas, ONG de conservaci\u00f3n y otros).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sobre deforestaci\u00f3n lo entendemos mejor, sabemos de qu\u00e9 se trata o de qu\u00e9 estamos hablando, pero menos entendemos sobre lo que es la degradaci\u00f3n. La degradaci\u00f3n[1] de los bosques, lo definen como la reducci\u00f3n de la capacidad de un bosque de proporcionar bienes y servicios \u2013 como fibra, alimentos, h\u00e1bitat, agua, almacenamiento de carbono, sitios sagrados y otros valores culturales, socioecon\u00f3micos y productivos; aqu\u00ed no nos referimos a la disminuci\u00f3n dela superficie forestal sino de la calidad del estado de los bosques, respecto a uno o a m\u00e1s elementos del ecosistema forestal (estrato vegetal, fauna, suelo, agua, etc.), a las interacciones entre estos componentes y, m\u00e1s generalmente, a su funcionamiento (Lanly 2003).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
